Help for Psychology

Georgina Hay-Brown - Senior Social Worker

I am a senior social worker, Practice Educator who has been working within the social care arena for over twenty years. I hold a Psychology, Social Work degree and am a qualified Practice Educator through Middlesex University.

Over the years I have worked extensively with children and their families in local authority settings, LAC, CIN, adoption and fostering in a private setting. I have also provided assessments and mediation for CAFCASS when family relationships have broken down, and children have become at the centre of the dispute.

My work has primarily been within CAMHS settings, or working alongside family therapists, psychotherapists, psychologists and teachers.

My main skills are developing working relationships with families and providing assessments either to the court or to determine the best way forward for a child and their family.  I have also provided support groups for young women in schools as well as parenting groups. The former involved supporting girls (school years 7 and 8) who had been identified as struggling with peer groups, pressure of 'fitting in', self-esteem etc. This initiative provided them with the space and opportunity to speak about experiences and share these with other young adults. The parent group was offered as support whilst we worked with the child. Aside from the family work that was undertaken, the group again provided parents the opportunity to speak about concerns they had about their child, and as facilitator I offered different strategies and coping mechanisms to try out at home.

More recently, I have gained experience of working as a senior safeguarding lead within a low secure CAMHS Tier 4 setting.
